Idea & Inspiration: When I first tried to come up with an idea for my audio story, I was stuck. Every idea I had didn’t feel right or work out how I wanted. So when I finally thought of this one, it felt like a breakthrough. I knew I wanted cars to be part of it somehow. I’ve always liked the sound of engines, so I started thinking about how I could use that. Then I decided to do an interview. I talked with my friend who also loves cars, and once we started recording, everything came together naturally. This project connects to me because cars are a big part of who I am. They represent my personality and interests, and I enjoyed being able to bring that into my story.
Design Process: When working on this project, I wanted to figure out how to combine my interview with my friend and the sounds of cars. I started with the interview, then added car sounds whenever they came up in the conversation. The car sounds were a big part of the design and gave the project its character. I used sound clips and audio recordings I captured myself to make it more personal and original. My design process was simple. It mainly focused on blending the interview with the car sounds. After listening to the first version, I realized it was too quiet, so I decided to make my own background music. I used my small DJ controller to compose it, which helped bring the whole piece to life and made it sound complete.
Technical Details: All the audio in this project was created or recorded by me. The car sound clips came from real moments I experienced and recorded in person. The interview was also done in person with my friend. I made the background music myself to make the project more unique. The main tools I used were the clipping and fade tools. I used clipping to cut out parts of the interview that weren’t needed and fading to bring the background music in and out smoothly. The biggest challenge was deciding what direction to take and finding the right sound clips to fit the story. Overall, the project was fun to make and I enjoyed putting it all together.
