Idea and Inspiration
For this project, I created a logo based on my BMW F30, which represents both my personal interest in cars and my attention to design detail. I started with an image of a BMW F30 M3 and used it as a base reference in Adobe Illustrator. I outlined the main body of the car using vector shapes and then masked out the rest of the image to leave only the clean silhouette. My goal was to capture the form of the car without overcomplicating the design. The large “S” on the side connects to my name and helps brand the logo as part of my personal identity.
Design Process
I aimed for a retro cyberpunk color theme to give the design a strong visual pop. The orange and light blue color combination adds energy and contrast. I wanted the logo to look bold and slightly rough to keep a street or mechanical feel. This approach makes it feel less polished, which fits the aesthetic of hands-on car work and garage-style branding. During the process, I applied ideas from our readings on color balance and shape hierarchy. The car silhouette serves as the dominant shape, while the wheel and window colors add visual rhythm and contrast. I kept the proportions simple so the design remains scalable for both small stickers and large banners.
Technical Detail
I worked entirely in Illustrator using vector tools. I used the pen tool to trace and define each section of the car. Then I used the shape builder and mask tools to refine the edges and remove unwanted parts of the original image. I experimented with color fills, opacity, and layer order until I found a clean, high-contrast layout. The most challenging part was keeping the proportions correct while simplifying the lines. To fix this, I used the smart guide and align functions to keep the overall geometry balanced.
Sources and Materials
The only outside reference used was a photo of a BMW F30 M3, which I used to guide the outline and proportions. All other elements were created directly in Illustrator using vector shapes. BMW F30 Chassis This is the link to the picture that I used.
